Empowering Video Shows Us That We've Been Going About This Whole Beauty Thing All Wrong

"I know it's wrong, but I can't resist it because it's around me all of the time."

We know how difficult it can be to feel beautiful in our own skin when we're scrolling through our filtered newsfeeds, looking at the flawless models on magazine covers, and watching gorgeous celebrities on the big and small screen. When it comes to fitting into society's narrow beauty standards, the struggle is real.

Lycored, a wellness product company, has launched a campaign that helps to make it a little easier. Their #RethinkBeautiful campaign aims to change the perception of beauty and remind everyone that you can't always see the things that make you beautiful.

"Our goal through this campaign is to challenge the traditional notion of beauty by sharing the message that the beauty we feel on the inside is what the world sees on the outside," said Zev Ziegler, the vice president of brand and marketing at Lycored.

In an effort to spread their campaign, they've released a series of videos where people describe the things that make them feel beautiful. Their first video, "Beauty Is What You Make It," features a group of people who share their struggles with feeling attractive in today's society.

"I've been criticized so much because of my weight, so I just feel like there's no winning. There's no comfortable weight. You're either too big or too small."

"A lot of the times I was feeling ugly, per say [sic], was when I was much younger when I didn't know who I was," one woman said. "And, so, you're more wrapped up in the superficial You're looking for a definition from someone else and not looking within."

By the end of the video, they share the things that make them feel beautiful such as being appreciated, making people laugh, and motherhood.

"When we are authentic in what we do, and don't worry about what other people are doing, that opens the door to allowing others to feel like they can be themselves as well," Amie Valpone, nutrition ambassador for Lycored, said. "I think it is an amazingly powerful message that deserves to be shared with everyone, because we are all beautiful in our own unique way."
