A ‘Riverdale’ Star Accused Of Being Pregnant Turns Gossip Into A Moment Of Body Positivity

"My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for."

Lili Reinhart is used to fans speculating about her relationship with Cole Sprouse, but she recently experienced a new level of personal life invasion. Social media has been abuzz with Riverdale fans wondering if Reinhart is pregnant with Sprouse's baby — with the actress turning a moment of questioning into a lesson on body positivity.

Previously, Reinhart took to Tumblr to voice how she was upset about fans obsessing over her love life, writing: "It's horrifying how invested some people are in my love life, emphasis on 'my.' It is mine. It is private." Reinhart asked fans then to "reevaluate your priorities" if you felt "anger," "frustration," or "anxiety" over a complete stranger's relationship. Now, it seems, the fandom needed another talking to.

"It's unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the internet causes hundreds of people to think that I'm pregnant," Reinhart began via Instagram Stories. "Nope. Not pregnant. This is just my body. And sometimes I'm bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight."

"My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for," Reinhart continued. "My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that's fine. So let's not put so much time and effort into caring about a stranger's figure."

In the wake of Reinhart's posts, Riverdale co-star and BFF Camila Mendes — who herself has spoken out about how dieting doesn't equal being healthy — posted on Instagram Stories a message that both supports Reinhart and provides another point of view.

In the statement, Mendes said she often feels bloated and her weight fluctuates as well, adding that "it comes with being a woman and should be celebrated, not criticized." Mendes then opened up about feeling insecure with her body — especially in regards to strangers judging it — and how she is inspired by Reinhart.

"I used to fear the day that people start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I've suffered too much from my own self criticism, and wasn't sure that I could handle it from others," Mendes wrote. "But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practicing self love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let's continue inspiring women to love their bodies."

With these two besties standing by each other's side, we know they'll continue to overcome the bullies — and, yes, that refers to well-meaning fans who overstep boundaries, too.
