You Won't Be Seeing Kathy Griffin's Signature Red Hair Anytime Soon For A Very Heartfelt Reason

Sisters stand together.

When it comes to the Griffin family, there's solidarity among sisters. Kathy Griffin, a famed — and sometimes controversial — comedian is sporting a new look that reportedly has a lot of meaning behind it for her: ditching the red locks she is known for in exchange for a bald head.

Photos of the 56-year-old sans hair — but still with those fiery eyebrows — popped up on social media yesterday, July 31, on writer Yashar Ali's Twitter account. At this point Griffin has yet to elaborate on or provide more details about the decision, but Ali wrote a caption about the move.

"In solidarity with her sister, who is going through chemo, @kathygriffin shaved her head," he said, also including a link to donate to the American Cancer Society.

In one photo we see Griffin striking a gorgeous pose showing off the new 'do while the other shows the Emmy- and Grammy winner's mom, Maggie Griffin — who folks might remember from My Life on the D-List which aired from 2005 to 2010 — rubbing Griffin's head. Mama Griffin also took to Twitter to express that she thinks her daughter is a "wonderful human being."

We don't know more about what Griffin's sister, Joyce, is facing in her cancer battle, but our hearts go out to what she and the rest of the family are going through. After all, People points out that this will hit home for the family as one of Griffin's brothers, Gary, passed away back in 2014 after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer.

Griffin has been in the news lately, having taken part in a controversial photo shoot showing her holding a severed, bloody head which resembles President Donald Trump. Griffin apologized for the act, but not before she saw herself lose endorsements, tour dates, and projects — most notably a New Year's Eve show on CNN with Anderson Cooper. Griffin recently announced that the federal investigation against her was over and she had been completely exonerated. Regardless of your stance on that situation, we're happy to see her directing her energy and encouragement toward her family.
