Strange Light Formations Appeared In The Sky. Scientists Have A Better Explanation Than Aliens.

A peculiar natural phenomenon was captured by a Greenwood, Ind., local on June 12.

YouTube user QuadeM13 says he was riding a bike when he noticed something unusual in the storm clouds gathering above his head. A beam of bright yellow light was moving back and forth, as if someone in the sky was playing with a gigantic flashlight.

Totally taken away by what he saw, QuadeM13 recorded a short video of the spectacle. After uploading it to YouTube and several places on Reddit, the footage received massive response from the community with everyone trying to guess what this remarkable phenomenon actually was.

While some were pondering about aliens and Biblical scenarios, several people pointed out that this natural phenomenon is known as the "crown flash" or "jumping sundogs." According to scientists, these rapid light flashes appear when light interacts with ice crystals in the clouds.

"Lightning discharge in a thundercloud can temporarily change the electric field above the cloud where charged ice crystals were reflecting sunlight. The new electric field quickly re-orients the geometric crystals to a new orientation that reflects sunlight differently. In other words, a lightning discharge can cause a sundog to jump," NASA explains.
