Artist Creates Sculptures Invisible To The Naked Eye

God is in the details.

Ever thought that finding a needle in a haystack is impossible? Try finding these sculptures.

London-based artist Jonty Hurwitz creates sculptures so small, they can easily fit inside the eye of a needle, on a human hair or the forehead of an ant. As of October 2014, Hurwitz's sculptures have been declared "the smallest creations of the human form in history."

But just how tiny are they?

Using 3D printing, Hurwitz creates incredible nanosculptures that can't be seen with the naked eye.

This sculpture, titled "Trust", measures at 80 x 100 x 20 microns and is considered the smallest creation of the human form in history.

To demonstrate the scale of his creations, Hurwitz places them on familiar objects such as human hair.

"The scale is these sculptures approximately equals the amount your fingernails grow every 5 or 6 hours," Hurwitz writes.

This 3D model depicts Antonio Canova's famous 1793 Cupid and Psyche sculpture and is placed on the head of an ant.

"The absolute fact is this: the human eye is unable to see these sculptures. Can you be sure of its existence if your basic senses are telling you that nothing is there?" Hurwitz asks.

"The only way to perceive these works is on the screen of powerful scanning electron microscope. So how can you ever know that this sculpture really exists? Your only way to engage with it is through a screen, and a mouse separating you and the art. The line between myth and science is fine," Jonty Hurwitz writes on his website.

The Cupid and Psyche sculpture is even compared to the size of human sperm.

But can you guess the unfortunate fate of these minuscule artworks? They all have been lost and all that's left are these images.
