Does No One Know Merrick Garland's Name? Jimmy Kimmel's 'Lie Witness News' Asks People About Tyrion Lannister And Whitey Bulger As Supreme Court Nominees

"Are you looking forward to see Tyrion Lannister rule from the Iron Throne in the Supreme Court?"

Politics is not everyone's game, but one would think a little knowledge on the most hotly debated subject in the country would be worth some consideration. But according to Jimmy Kimmel, "Americans can name more judges from America's Got Talent than judges on the Supreme Court." To prove his point, Jimmy Kimmel's Supreme Court Justice version of "Lie Witness News" took to the streets with another brilliantly cringeworthy segment in the "Lie Witness News" series.

Justice Antonin Scalia's unexpected death in February saw Senate Republicans issue an outright refusal to give a hearing to President Obama's Supreme Court nominee to replace Scalia — whomever that may be. But Obama went ahead anyway, nominating Judge Merrick Garland, whose career has seen strong support on both ends of the political spectrum. But how much of this Supreme Court drama is the American public really following?

It turns out that people may have the general gist of what the debacle is about, but they're not that great at names involved. Kimmel's "Lie Witness News" interviewer asked passersby what they thought about Obama's nominee: Irish mob boss Whitey Bulger, late Beatle George Harrison (yes, he's British), even Scientology founder Ron L. Hubbard (who's also passed).

The questions inadvertently turned to Game of Thrones' Tyrion Lannister.

"President Obama nominated Tyrion Lannister for Supreme Court justice. Do you think that Tyrion Lannister will bring peace to all Seven Kingdoms or be a divisive figure?"

"I think he's going to be divisive," the woman responded. "Nowadays we have so many kingdoms, we'll say, and everybody's pulling for this kingdom [or] that kingdom ... We're going to see how it runs."
