Jimmy Kimmel Shares Photo Of His Son As Important Reminder Of What’s At Stake In The Health Care Debate

A monologue about his son’s health crisis went viral in May.

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel shared a photo of his 3-month-old son Billy on Twitter Friday as an update on his condition and as an important reminder that access to affordable health care is often a literal life-or-death-situation.

Earlier this year, one Kimmel's monologues went viral when he used the first 13 minutes of Jimmy Kimmel Live! to share with viewers the story of the birth of his son, Billy. Kimmel became emotional as he recalled that almost immediately after his birth, it was discovered that Billy had a heart problem that required surgery.

While his story had a happy ending, Kimmel used the monologue to share his belief that all Americans should be offered affordable health care. "No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child's life," he said at the time.

There was an outpouring of support for Kimmel and his family after the clip went viral, including a special surprise from Snoop Dogg, which occurred almost concurrently with the House of Representatives voting to repeal and replace major parts of Obamacare with legislation that would potentially take away health care from 24 million people. As the future of the American health care system remains unstable, Kimmel and his wife both took a moment to remind citizens that Congress should be working to protect children like their son.

"Billy is 3 months old & doing great," Kimmel wrote. "Thanks for the love & support. Please remind your Congresspeople that every kid deserves the care he got."
