Jill Stein Announces 2016 Presidential Bid

She is the only declared candidate for the Green Party.

On Monday, in a Democracy Now! exclusive, Dr. Jill Stein announced her intention to run for president, becoming the first Green Party member to declare her candidacy. Dr. Stein was the official nominee for the Green Party in the 2012 election, and received the most votes ever recorded for a female presidential candidate in United States history.

Speaking with Amy Goodman, Dr. Stein stressed the distance between the other declared candidates and herself: "That is essentially the difference between my campaign and other campaigns — that we are part of a party that does not accept corporate money, and that does not accept money from lobbyists, nor from corporate CEOs or surrogates of corporations."

The cornerstone of Dr. Stein's campaign is the "Green New Deal," which she envisions as a green overhaul of the U.S. economy – one that would lead to a transition to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030.  Dr. Stein also noted that her Green New Deal would be an opportunity to renew the country's infrastructure and create new jobs for American workers.

Her Green New Deal is only a part of her "Power to the People Plan," and her platform touches on other issues such as education, healthcare, and equality:
