Jennifer Lawrence Is All Heart With Her Pledge To A Kentucky Children's Hospital

Her commitment will make an even bigger impact.

Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence may wow us with her talents and be our hero for her great sense of humor, but the actress is simultaneously winning us over with her big heart.

On Friday, Lawrence appeared in a video posted on YouTube by Norton Healthcare, in which she made a huge announcement.

The star of the Hunger Games franchise has committed to donating $2 million to Korsair Children's Hospital in her hometown of Louisville, Ky.

"I'm excited to announce that we will be establishing the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Kosair Children's Hospital," she says in the video.

According to USA Today, Lawrence's donation will help Korsair improve and expand upon its expertise and facilities for specialized care of infants and children with heart disease and heart defects. Not only is the hospital in the process of trying to raise $25 million for overall project, but it has hired a top pediatric cardiovascular surgeon from Boston Children's Hospital to co-direct the center.

It will have 14 beds for kids recovering from such procedures as open-heart surgery, heart transplants, heart failure, and more. The paper also reports that space is being set aside for families to stay with their kids while they are hospitalized after the intense procedures — which may seem scary to little ones.

Lawrence took her donation to this worthy cause a step further and asked for help from viewers.

"As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children," she says in the video.

The admirable move by one of Hollywood's biggest stars could help this hospital reach its financial goals — and put it on the path to helping more children safely heal and comfortably recover from heart-related illnesses. And while we as fans appreciate her charity, her mom, Karen Lawrence, sounds extremely proud of her famous daughter.

"I'm so happy that ... she is able ... to help another family," she told USA Today. "It's just giving from your heart."
