Muslim Shopper Stands Up To Islamophobic Woman In Line At The Supermarket

She couldn't have handled it better.

A Muslim woman who gave up her spot in line at the supermarket quickly regretted it when the woman who took the spot used the opportunity to spew falsehoods.

In a now-viral video, a woman from Reston, Virginia is caught on tape telling a Muslim woman she wishes they didn't "let her in this country" and falsely claimed former President Barack Obama was a Muslim.

According to comedian Jeremy McCellan, who is friends with the Muslim woman and who told Fusion the story behind the video, this is how it all started:

This woman was in a hurry so my friend (who is a Muslim woman) offered to let her go in front of her in line. That's when she started talking bad about a different Muslim woman in the store (who was wearing niqab) and asking my friend why she didn't cover as well. My friend replied it was a choice and the woman didn't believe her and started talking about FGM and telling her "I wish they didn't let you in the country." That's when my friend started filming.

Here is what ensued:

In the video, the woman behind the camera — who wanted to remain anonymous — explains that she was born in the United States. It's then that the woman in line goes off on an anti-Muslim tirade.

"Oh, you were?" she says. "Obama's not in office anymore. We don't have a Muslim in there anymore... he may be in jail, too."

The Muslim woman, remaining calm, says that she wishes he were still in office and manages to film the woman's face while she talks.

"You look a little crazy, maybe you need to get some help," the Muslim woman says.

"Oh, I'm fine," she responds.

"No, you're not," the Muslim woman responds. "Because you don't just strike up conversation with people in line talking about stuff like that if you're normal."

The offending woman appears to become sheepish and asks if her comments about Obama are what set the Muslim woman off. Without losing her temper, the Muslim woman managed to call out her comments and shut down the Islamophobia in one fell swoop.
