These Honest Sex Ed Videos Are Exactly What We Need To Be Teaching Our Kids In School

"Sex is good."

Sex ed — even though those two words refer to a class in school, they are enough to provoke some very different reactions.

But why?

It's no secret that in the United States sex education is subpar.

While countries like Sweden and France are known for teaching adolescents how to make informed decisions when it comes to having sex, only 22 states require that public schools teach sex education

And even more surprising is that only 19 require that the information provided to students be medically accurate.

However, a new video series might just set the record straight.

Titled "The Practical Guide to Love, Sex and Relationships," it was put together by the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society.

The video series has recently been implemented in Australian schools and aims to teach teens about things like healthy relationships, porn, and how to tell if they are ready for sex.

All of the lessons are taught through fun, animated, and relatable videos.

Jenny Walsh, a sex education expert and project lead of the video series, believes these videos will help teens make better and more informed choices when it comes to their desire to have sex.

"If desire is lacking, then it's one of the indicators that you may not be ready to have sex at this stage and age.We want them to know that that's a normal and good choice too," Walsh told The Age.

Walsh also discussed gender roles, something that is not often discussed in sex ed, with The Age, stating, "young women still fear that if they say what they want, that they will be judged as a slut, or will be called frigid."

As teens will ultimately make the decision whether or not they want to engage in sexual activities, the least we can do is provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to make an informed decision.
