Grindr Launched Its Own Clothing Line, And It Will Help Support LGBTQ Athletes

"All profits are going to an amazing group."

Grindr is known for being one of the hottest gay dating apps around, but it could soon be known for its clothes as well as its connections. That's because Grindr has officially launched its own clothing line called The Varsity Collection.

It might seem like an unlikely thing for the app to do, but it is actually an amazing step toward supporting a community in need.

The clothing line will help support LGBTQ athletes.

Proceeds from Grindr's clothing line will be donated to Athlete Ally's Principle 6 campaign, a 2014 campaign created in response to Russia's anti-LGBTQ laws surrounding the Olympics in Sochi. The initiative's goal is to uphold the Olympic charter of anti-discrimination by supporting athletes of all different orientations.

Adweek reported that Grindr creative director Landis Smithers wrote a statement about the charitable clothing range, "As we keep evolving, we are looking for ways to combine things people enjoy with ways to help the community globally. The collection feels sexy, cheeky, fun, but in the end, all profits are going to an amazing group that helps athletes with the issues the gay community faces all around the world. It felt like a different way to approach sports, and every partner in the mix has been amazing."

In keeping with the athletic theme, Grindr's line is filled with 30 sporty items including track pants, shorts, tops, hoodies, swimwear, and jockstraps. The collection is a collaboration with Prints All Over Me and features Greek motifs. Pieces in the collection range from $25 to $130.

HelloGiggles pointed out that Grindr has delved into the fashion world previously. The dating app streamed designer J.W. Anderson's show and Diesel has advertised on Grindr. However, this is the first time that Grindr has launched a proper clothing line of its own.

It's also a new avenue for dating apps. Dating apps have mostly stuck to attracting people in the online world, but Grindr is now expanding to make more positive change within its target community.
