Teen Makes 'Bold Statement' With Senior Yearbook Quote, Thanks To 'Grey's Anatomy'

"I chose this as my quote because I feel some people do not accept who I am."

When Grey's Anatomy wraps this month, it will mark the end of the 14th season of the Shonda Rhimes series. That run includes a staggering 317 episodes, numerous medical emergencies for our beloved characters to overcome, and more doctor hookups than we can count. For one recent high school graduate, though, there is one specific moment that she will likely remember for the rest of her life.

Krysta Montoya, an 18-year-old from Albuquerque, has gone viral thanks to the senior quote she included in her yearbook. "Grey's Anatomy Season 5, Episode 6, 39:40," the quote reads. When some people didn't get it, Montoya took to Twitter to explain it to those who aren't diehards.

The quote in question comes from a scene in which one character tells another: "I am so, so, so gay." The scene in question happens about 3:18 minutes into the episode with 39:40 minutes left, which explains Montoya's senior quote.

"I was just watching Grey's Anatomy one day [when I saw the quote] and I loved it and I said 'this will be my senior quote.' I took a screenshot and it's been in my camera roll ever since," Montoya told BuzzFeed of discovering the inspiration.

"I chose this as my quote because I feel some people do not accept who I am," Montoya, who came out freshman year, told Insider. "I just wanted to basically make a bold statement. I've lost some friends over my sexuality, but my family has always supported me."

As for Montoya being able to use what she calls "probably one of my favorite shows" — one that has made her "feel a roller coaster of emotions" — to totally own the spotlight, that's the cherry on top for this newly minted internet icon.
