Here's Why A Famous Supermodel, And People Everywhere, Are Posing With Limes

You may recognize supermodel Gigi Hadid from Sports Illustrated issues or from runway shows like Chanel, Tom Ford and Jeremy Scott.

You may also recognize her as "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'" Yolanda Foster's daughter.

And this morning, Hadid posted a photo on Instagram to support Lyme disease with a new hashtag challenge: #TakeABiteOutOfLyme.

The challenge calls social media users to take a bite out of a lime and share a fact about Lyme disease. The challenge not only supports those who are suffering, but also spreads awareness to those who are not well-informed about the disease.

Hadid writes on her post: "#LYMEDISEASECHALLENGE for Lyme warriors like my mamma," Yolanda Foster.

"The best cure is prevention," Hadid continues. "Be cautious in wooded areas and always check for ticks! Learn more about Lyme disease #takeabiteoutoflyme & share a fact!!"

So far, responses to the challenge — that kicked off initially in March of this year — have been overwhelming.

"@idougahole and my sister doing the #lymechallenge💚💚 lyme disease desperately needs awareness. It has over 100 symptoms and when not caught early becomes very difficult to treat."

"FACT: There are over 100 strains of Lyme bacteria in the U.S."

And according to, Lyme disease is called The Great Imitator, because "its symptoms mimic many other diseases. It can affect any organ of the body..." Symptoms, like a rash in the shape of a bull's-eye with a dark edge, calls for immediate treatment.
