Put Your Phone Away At This Restaurant And You'll Get Free Pizza

It's working.

The Curry Pizza Company is offering groups of four or more people discounts on pizza for putting their phones away while they eat.

The California restaurants tells its patrons that if you lock your phones away when you sit down for meal, you'll get a certificate for a free large plain pizza. You can cash in on the spot and take the pizza home with you or claim it on your next visit.

"Our goal is to get families/friends to stop using their phones while eating and talk to each other and communicate more," the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post. "If you like, you may receive a free large (per group) on your next visit (must be at least 24 hours) or you can donate your free large pizza to the needy."

A co-owner of the restaurant came up with the idea when he reduced his own phone use at home to spend more time with his kids and lead by example. The company says it has given away 40 to 50 pizzas since the giveaway started, according to Fox News.  In order to get the free pizza, groups must have at least four people in it — all with smartphones.

Along with giving away 40 to 50 free pizzas to people vying for the discount, the restaurant said it gives away an additional 50 to 60 pizzas to the homeless every other week.
