Eva Longoria's Birth Announcement Brings Attention To Separated Immigrant Children

"I cannot imagine him being taken from my arms."

Eva Longoria welcomed her first child, Santiago Enrique Bastón, with husband José "Pepe" Bastón on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

On June 21, the actress shared a photo of the newborn from HOLA! USA on Instagram along with a message about families who were forcibly separated at the United States-Mexico border, and the organizations she's supporting in an effort to reunite children with their parents.

"Hello world! I introduce to you Santiago Enrique Bastón. Thank you everyone for showering my baby boy with all your warm wishes! Special thanks to @usahola. In light of my son's birth I wanted to bring focus on the families that have been separated at the border. Having my son next to me, I cannot imagine him being taken from my arms. Families belong together which is why we must do what we can to reunite them. That's why I am supporting @raicestexas and @aclu_nationwide to help fund legal services for separated families (link in bio) #KeepFamiliesTogether"

Along with Longoria, citizens from the United States and around the world have spoken out against the zero-tolerance immigration policy, including all five living First Ladies and religious leaders. Crowdfunding campaigns to help reunite families have amassed millions of dollars in a number of days, and George and Amal Clooney recently announced they'd be donating $100,000 to the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights

While President Donald Trump signed an executive order on June 20 to end family separation, the administration's plan for reuniting families is unclear, according to the New York Times.

Longoria followed up her plea with a video on the history of child separation and immigration and a message from Tracee Ellis Ross.

Instagram users are also sharing their thoughts about the border crisis and congratulating Longoria on her son.

"Congratulations, precious Eva! And thanks for your support," one user said. "I come from a separated family and it never should happen to anybody. Best wishes."

Another said, "Congratulations, beautiful mama."

"Motherhood is such a wonderful gift and I can't imagine being separated from my children for any reason. Thank you for bringing light to this situation especially during this joyous time in your life. God bless you and your new love."
