In Order To Save His Species, This Northern White Rhino Created A Profile On Tinder

Extreme times call for extreme measures.

Being surrounded by armed guards isn't ideal when you're looking for love. But in this situation, it's the only way to save the northern white rhino species.

The last-of-its-kind male northern white rhino — named Sudan — has become the center of attention on Tinder for a campaign aligned with the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Unable to mate on his own due to various issues, including old age, Sudan has to take the next measures to ensure his species lives on.

According to Scientific American, after the death of 41-year-old white rhino Nola, "there are now only three northern white rhinos left on the planet, all of which live at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya."

The two remaining female rhinos are incapable of natural reproduction, and Sudan has a very low sperm count, but the conservancy still has hopes for in vitro fertilization."

In efforts to raise money for research and, essentially, IVF for rhinos, the Ogilvy Africa agency channeled its creativity and took to Tinder. Since Tinder has become an effective way for humans to find love, why not help Sudan on his journey? While many other campaigns have taken to social media, including on Tinder, this one definitely sticks out from the rest.

The campaign, which is running in 190 countries and 40 languages according to Adweek, has already gained a lot of attention — celebrities including Jimmy Fallon, Lupita Nyong'o, Richard Branson, and Aaron Ramsey have taken to Twitter in hopes of finding love for Sudan. In what may be one of the most heart-wrenching Tinder profiles around, Sudan's profile reads, "I don't mean to be too forward, but the fate of my species literally depends on me." Users can then swipe right to find the donation page
