Ellen DeGeneres Made A Generous Donation To Help Texas Residents — Including Its Animals

"Texas, I love you."

People in and out of Texas have been doing their part over the past several days to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey — by donating their money, time, energy, and resources, and spreading the word to others through social media.

Now talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is showing her generosity with several donations to help affected residents, including the furry ones.

Although it has been downgraded to a tropical storm, the Washington Post reports that, according to forecasters, up to 20 inches more rain could fall on Texas and Louisiana by Thursday.

"Because of Hurricane Harvey, a lot of people in Texas have lost their homes," DeGeneres said in a video posted to Twitter, which has received tens of thousands of retweets. "The city of Houston has been hit the hardest."

"I know people want to help," DeGeneres continued. "I would like to help, so I'm donating $25,000 to the Red Cross."

The host went on to say that her show is donating another $25,000 to the Red Cross, and she is also donating yet another $25,000 to the SPCA of Texas, which is helping care for the pets of evacuees. DeGeneres is an animal lover with pets of her own, so we would expect nothing less from her.

She also asked her viewers to text HARVEY to 90999 to automatically donate $10 of their own.

"Texas, I love you," DeGeneres wrote in the video's caption, adding the hashtag #HoustonStrong. The area holds a special place in the host's heart, as she lived in both Louisiana and Texas growing up.

DeGeneres joins other celebrities who are doing their part to help those affected by the storm. Kevin Hart tagged several of his famous friends on Instagram challenging them to donate $25,000 to the Red Cross and keep the chain going. Meanwhile, Drake announced on Instagram that he is "working with local relief groups," and posted several emergency numbers.
