Elizabeth Warren Just Gave Samantha Bee A Pep Talk We Should All Hear

"My optimism is not blind."

For those who oppose the Trump administration, it can be all too easy to feel pessimistic about the future of the country. On this week's episode of Full Frontal on TBS, host Samantha Bee set out to get some advice for how to keep going in an increasingly disheartening political climate, and she knew exactly who to talk to — Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Their conversation was funny, relatable, and something a lot of us really needed to hear.

After describing herself as "exhausted" and "personally broken," Bee asked Warren what she and her viewers should do.

"You get in the fight, and then you fight as hard as you can," Warren said. When Bee asked her what that meant, Warren explained, "It means that when you're told to be quiet, you don't sit down and be quiet. You stand back up."

Warren certainly knows a thing or two about that. The phrase "Nevertheless, she persisted," spoken by Sen. Mitch McConnell as he tried to silence her on the Senate floor, became a rallying cry for women earlier this year.

"I feel like you think we're going to come out of this better than when we started," Bee said, which Warren confirmed.

"And you know why?" she added. "Because we don't have any choice."

"My cynicism is not backing down from your blind optimism," Bee insisted, to which Warren replied, "My optimism is not blind. I see exactly what is going on."

Things got a bit sillier from there, as Bee asked Warren to talk her down from "the ledge of the death of democracy" — with a quick break to take a call from Beyoncé. Warren also revealed her love for the TV show Ballers, so Bee surprised her with a cardboard cutout of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Bee admitted she was nervous to talk to Warren, but it actually went well. "Nevertheless, you persisted," Warren told her. And now we're inspired to do the same.
