Artist Took LSD And Spent 9 Hours Drawing Herself To Show The Effect Drugs Have On Brain

Do NOT try this at home.

Experimentation is in the nature of any artist. But always being on the lookout for new sources of inspiration inevitably makes their minds and bodies wander into uncharted, dangerous, even destructive territories.

No matter how harsh, the truth is that most of your favorite tales, songs and poems weren't written by artists who felt high on life. Contrary, they've probably been created under the influence of addictive substances, such as alcohol, opium, cocaine and other drugs.

And while by no means is it a justification to use these substances, the outcome they bring can be really fascinating from time to time. Much like this art experiment.

According to Reddit user whatafinethrowaway, she asked her artist friend to draw a series of self-portraits while under the influence of LSD. When her friend said yes, they spent almost 10 hours together: one of them drawing, the other documenting the experience.

She drew the first self-portrait 15 minutes after taking LSD before any noticeable effect.

According to whatafinethrowaway, her friend took a hit of  around 200 mcg (0.2 milligrams), which is considered to be the minimum dose required to produce psychedelic hallucinations.

She spent 15-45 minutes on each of the drawings and did everything without looking at a mirror.

Be sure to scroll down and see the incredible transformation drugs had not only on this artist's style, but self-perception as well.

Forty-five minutes later, the drugs started kicking in. Her hair gets longer and she uses more vibrant colors.

An hour and 45 minutes into her trip, the artist continues picturing herself with hair longer than they actually are.

Two hours and 15 minutes later, the shape of her face starts changing. Everything bursts with color.

Three hours and 30 minutes in, the woman stops drawing her eyes.

Strange, huh? Truth is, the real trip is just beginning to unfold ...

The artist later told her friend that she usually fills the eyes at the very end because she doesn't want the picture to stare back at her while drawing. In this case, four hours and 45 minutes into her trip, she didn't want the picture to look at her at all.

This is her seventh drawing done six hours after taking LSD. The remark says that at this point she lost the black pencil and could only use the colored ones.

Six hours and 45 minutes later it looks like she's wearing some weird carnival mask.

According to the Reddit post, she drew this eight hours after taking LSD, in complete darkness, while listening to Pink Floyd.

Eight hours and 45 minutes in, the artist moves away from drawing just her face: 'I tried to draw what was inside my head, but in the middle of it, things were happening outside my head instead,' she said.

Nine hours and 30 minutes later, the effects were fading, but the last portrait is still kind of psychedelic.
