Divorced Couple Gets Engaged Again In Beautiful Christmas Proposal

"True love always finds its way back around."

Sometimes you have to be apart to realize how much you want to be together again. Such was the case for Jeffrey and Lorrie Agan, who were first married in 1989 in an electronic store because they couldn't afford a traditional wedding. After 25 years of marriage, the couple got divorced in 2014. They have eight children together and the split was difficult for the entire family.

"They fought, separated, divorced, and it tore the family apart," Jeffrey Jr., 21, told Buzzfeed. "Each of us felt like we had to cope with the destruction in different ways, and on our own."

After the split, Jeffrey Sr. and Lorrie started working on bettering themselves. After being a truck driver for 20 years, Jeffrey Sr. went back to school and got his degree in nursing. He focused on his own health and started going to the gym. He also started spending more time with his grandchildren and picked up poetry as a hobby. Lorrie spent more time in nature and practiced meditation.

Eventually, the couple started spending real time together again.

That brings us to this Christmas when Jeffrey Sr. decided to ask Lorrie to be his wife again.

With his family gathered around for the holiday, Jeffrey Sr. presented her with a wrapped gift. In it, was a poem he had written for her and had framed. As she started reading it aloud, Jeffrey got down on one knee and opened up an engagement ring box.

"No one knew Dad had planned the proposal, and the detail and love he put into it," Jeffrey Jr. told Buzzfeed, "but I read the situation quickly as it was happening, and I pulled out my phone and caught a great recording!"

Jeffrey Jr. shared the video on Twitter. "My parents were married for more than 20 years, divorced, fought a lot, went to work on themselves. Years later, they start dating and as of yesterday, this happened," he wrote.

Now, the couple is happily engaged for a second time.

Jeffrey Jr.'s tweet quickly went viral and has more than 200,000 retweets and over 780,000 likes. Thousands of people replied to send their love and support and congratulate the happy couple on their re-engagement.

Jeffrey Jr. and his family were overwhelmed with gratitude by the positive response from people online. Lorrie took to Twitter to thank those who had reached out to her and her family — and share her personal feelings on the matter.

"I am so overwhelmed. My son posted this. It was the most awesome moment of my life. My fiance/ex-husband is the most beautiful person I have ever met. His personal growth inspires me. I am the luckiest woman on planet earth," she wrote.

Jeffrey Jr. started a GoFundMe page after the video went viral to raise $2,000 for his parent's wedding. He's already reached his goal thanks to the generosity of strangers who were moved by his parents' story.

"I still legit cry every time I watch this video," Jeffrey Jr. wrote on Twitter. "This is such a blessing to my family, who have suffered years of division. One family, whole again, I couldn't wish for anything better for Christmas!"
