Parkland Students Arrive At The March For Our Lives To Cheers Of 'Thank You'

"Now is the time to come together, not as Democrats, not as Republicans, but as Americans."

Survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. were met with cheers of support and gratitude as they arrived at the March for Our Lives Saturday. Held in memory of the 17 students who were killed on Feb. 14th and as a call for gun reform in the U.S., the March for Our Lives saw thousands of protesters take to the streets in 800 cities around the world. The Parkland students, who organized the event, were at the march in Washington, D.C.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" the crowd can be heard chanting in the video posted by CBS4's Lauren Pastrana as the students enter a backstage area.

Since the tragic incident at their school on Feb. 14, the Parkland students have continued to drive the conversation about gun control in America, even as personal attacks and conspiracy theories have been leveled against them. Several spoke at the March in Washington, D.C., and were joined at the event by survivors of the Sandy Hook school shooting.

"When people try to suppress your vote, and there are people who stand against you because you are too young, we say, 'no more,'" Parkland student David Hogg said at the rally. "When politicians say that your voice doesn't matter because the NRA owns them, we say, 'no more.' When politicians send their thoughts and prayers with no action, we say 'no more.' And to those politicians supported by the NRA, that allowed the continued slaughter of our children and our future, I say, 'get your resumes ready.'"

Hogg continued, declaring the March the "beginning of democracy":

"Now is the time to come together, not as Democrats, not as Republicans, but as Americans, Americans that are of the same flesh and blood and that care about one thing and one thing only, and that is, the future of this country and the children that are going to lead it."
