This Little Boy Chose A Princess Doll At The Toy Store, And His Dad's Response Speaks Volumes

Dad of the year.

Meet YouTuber Mikki Willis and his 4-year-old son, Azai.

Azai recently had a birthday party, at which he received two of the exact same toy. One of the toys was returned to the store, and the little guy was allowed to choose any toy he wanted to replace it.

For a kid of any age, that's a pretty awesome thing to get to do. So what did he choose as he entered the store filled with trucks, blocks, sports equipment, and games?

Azai found the one toy that really stood out to him, but it wasn't the one that most people might expect.

Azai chose Ariel.

He didn't want to walk around and look at the other princesses, he didn't want to look for anything else. He knew what he wanted, and that was that.

While some parents might not allow their sons to choose a princess doll, Mikki's only reservation was that he didn't want his son to view women in a light that has been affected by unrealistic beauty standards. The fact that Azai chose a doll in and of itself, however, was absolutely not a problem in his father's book.

"Azai is equally fascinated by princesses and robots," Mikki stated in the video's description on YouTube. "One moment he's all boy, the next he's expressing a softer, more angelic side. For me this behavior rings more authentic than playing one note all the time!"

For Mikki, making a video celebrating the fact that his son was true to himself is very much aligned with the parenting style in their family.

"My job as daddy is to provide a safe playing field for [Azai and his younger brother Zuri] to play whatever game they choose, or better yet, create their own game! I trust that by the time they realize the world isn't as accepting as mommy and daddy they'll have such a solid foundation that nothing will shake their stance to fully, and unabashedly be themselves," he said.
