Seeing How Couples Sleep Gives Us An Intimate Look Into Their Everyday Lives

"My favorite thing is waking up next to her."

Getting a good night's sleep isn't always easy: your pillow doesn't provide enough support, you toss and turn, the temperature in the bedroom isn't right. Now add another person, and that's a whole new ballgame.

In a video from Cut, the publication explores what it's like for various couples to sleep next to each other, giving us an intimate look into their everyday lives. To investigate, a camera is placed on each couple's bedroom ceiling over their bed. Cuddles, snores, position changes, and even welcome interruptions from pets and children are caught on camera throughout the night.

Each couple is also asked to explain their nighttime routines, how many hours of sleep they get each night, as well as why sleeping with their significant other is so special.

When one married couple is asked how having their daughter in their bed affects their sleep, the mother responds, laughing: "She's so cuddly. It's going to be so hard to kick her out of bed. And we're only going to get this for a little while, so we're trying to enjoy it as much as we can now until she [becomes] of age and tells us to get lost."

Later, when couples are asked why they feel obligated to share a bed, one participant says:

"I guess we do it because that's what you're supposed to do. But I guess my favorite thing is waking up next to her. Like whenever I get up in the morning and she's not in bed, which is rare, I miss seeing her first thing. It's just a good start to my day."
