Cristiano Ronaldo Shares His #7WordsForSyria In A Powerful Tweet

"This is for the children of Syria."

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has 7 words for the children of Syria: "Be strong. Have faith. Never give up."

His words, delivered via a tweet, were part of a larger campaign orchestrated by international aid organization Save The Children in which social media users are sharing their #7WordsForSyria. Millions of Syrian children have never known life without war and as the situation continues to escalate, Ronaldo, a Save the Children Global Artist Ambassador, is determined to raise awareness.

The Real Madrid star has the potential of reaching hundreds of millions of people with his message of hope for Syrian children, including his 250 million social media followers. Now, he's asking for their help in the fight for millions of children's survival by sharing their own messages of hope on social media and/or making a donation to Save the Children's Syrian relief efforts.

Ronaldo said in the video, addressing the children of Syria, "Don't lose your hope. The world is with you. We care about you. I am with you."

Per Save the Children, casualties in Syria have increased by 45 percent with at least 37 civilians reportedly killed by explosive weapons daily despite the creation of de-escalation zones aimed at providing safe spaces away from attacks. As the death toll continues to rise, so does the number of children displaced, with up to 250 children fleeing every hour.

"The children of Syria have been let down by the world for too long – nearly 3 million children have grown up knowing nothing but war," said Carolyn Miles, president and CEO of Save the Children. "Despite the recent promises of a ceasefire, children are still being bombed in their homes, schools and hospitals. Families are hiding in basements and have not had access to basic needs like food and medical supplies for months. Aid must never be used as a weapon of war in this way."

In addition to his call for help and continuous attention to the Syrian crisis, Ronaldo made a generous donation to Save the Children to provide immediate life-saving relief to children and families there, which will directly help with food, clothing, emergency medical care and psychosocial support.

"(His) generous donation will help us to support children from Aleppo and across Syria, who have suffered things children should never have to live through," said Nick Finney, Save the Children's North-West Syria Country Director. "Ronaldo is not only one of the world's most iconic sports figures, but he also has become a beacon of hope for millions of boys and girls worldwide – and hope is something that Syria's children need now more than ever."
