This Preschooler Declared He'd Marry His Classmate. 20 Years Later, He Actually Did.

"I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day."

When Matt Grodsky met Laura Scheel in preschool, he decided he would marry her. Years later, that's exactly what he did.

After Laura's parents adopted her from India, they enrolled her in the same preschool Grodsky attended. There, the two met, and she taught him everything from painting, to riding the swings.

"The rest is fate I guess," Grodsky told A Plus in an email.

"Our parents would take us to see Disney movies together, and we would always go over to each other's houses for playdates. Probably one of the funniest memories I have was her grabbing my hand during a scary movie in class, and me not being sure what to do. She always had a huge smile."

After preschool, the two separated, and didn't see each other again for eight years. But in high school, a mutual friend reconnected them, and within two weeks, they were dating. It was the fall of 2008.

"We both just clicked, no other way to put it," Grodsky told A Plus.

Fast-forward again and Grodsky decided he would follow through with his preschool plan and propose to Scheel in the same place they met — their preschool classroom.

"I convinced Laura that we were going to a picnic at the preschool. We had just finished up our junior year of college and we were going to separate schools in different states, so I framed it as a nice relaxing date. She didn't know that I had bought the ring two months earlier and talked with her dad earlier that week," Grodsky said.

"The whole car ride to the preschool she kept asking me why I seemed anxious. I kept checking my pocket when she wasn't looking to make sure the ring was still there. When we got to the preschool, I walked Laura over to the grass and simultaneously texted my brother 'Go.' I dropped down on one knee while my brother came in with the phone, snapping photos. Laura was shocked. I gave her my pitch on why I wanted her to marry me and she said 'yes' - whew!"

And on December 30, 2016, the couple married.

Since then, Grodsky says life's been great, but busy, too. He's working as a screenwriter while his wife works for a non-profit organization helping foster families in need. They've even got a new 6-month-old dog, Kirby. But in between all that, they're constantly reminiscing about preschool and their friendship.
