Teen Is Gifted A Car After Photos Of Him Walking To School In His Cap And Gown Go Viral

He has gotten up at 4:30 a.m. every week day to walk to the local bus to get him to school on time.

Corey Patrick was a high school senior at Tarrant High in Birmingham, AL who was focused on graduating with his friends. He had recently moved to the West End of the city, but wanted to finish his time at Tarrant High, where he had been attending school since the fourth grade.

To do so, he has gotten up at 4:30 a.m. every week day to walk to the local bus to get him to school on time.

On his graduation day, he followed his same routine, but he was clad in his graduation gown. Bus driver Dee Bee shared a photo of the determined student walking to school on Monday, May 21 and the post quickly went viral.

"Even when he would get out of school he couldn't get from that side of town until 5:19 when the bus runs back over there. So he doesn't make it back this way until about 6:30 or 7 o'clock," his mother, Felicia White, told WBRC.

Many were impressed by Patrick's drive and praised him for accomplishing his goals. When Patrick was identified as the student in the photo, people began offering their support.

Rickey Smiley of  The Rickey Smiley Morning Show brought the teenager onto his radio show and announced that he would get him a car with the help of fellow radio hosts from 95.7 Jamz

Less than 24 hours later, the crew presented Patrick with a new car and promised that they would help him with the insurance and getting his license.

The emotional moment was captured on video by Smiley. When Patrick is sitting in his new car, he says "I want to thank everyone who made this happen for me."

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for Patrick. The account was created on May 23 with the goal of $10,000. As of May 28, it has exceeded the goal with over $11,000 raised.

Patrick is currently studying for his driver's license and plans to take the test next month. He will be continuing his education at Jacksonville University where he received a full scholarship to study computer science.
