Actress Connie Britton Shares Why It's So Important For Women To Maintain Their Heart Health

"You need it, you deserve it, and your family needs it, too."

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States?

February is American Heart Month, and in an effort to raise awareness for heart disease, we spoke with actress Connie Britton to help open up a conversation about what women can do to maintain a healthy heart.

And it's an imperative conversation: Quaker Oats and WomenHeart report 43.8 million women are currently living with or at risk of heart disease, but Quaker's recent survey shows that only 11 percent of women said heart disease was their No. 1 health priority.

A Plus' Claire Peltier talked with Britton about what steps women can take to help maintain healthy hearts, as well as her personal experiences undergoing a heart screening.

"I wanted to really raise awareness, and just get out there and say to women, 'You're worth it. Take the time to take good care of your body, because you need it, you deserve it, and your family needs it, too,'" Britton says.
