Charlize Theron And 7 Other Actress Who Kick Major Butt On The Big Screen

You won't think of the phrase "fight like a girl" the same way again.

There's a video currently blowing up the internet showing Charlize Theron doing her own stunts for the upcoming action flick Atomic Blonde. The behind-the-scenes clip shows the director and the stunt coordinator praising the Oscar-winning actress for being so badass and the accompanying tweet jokes that Theron makes grown men cry by fighting like a girl.

Yes, this tweet calls out a super-sexist phrase and perfectly obliterates it in fewer than 140 characters. Theron's co-star James McAvoy already told GQ it was "a privilege and an honor" to get his butt handed to him by the actress. Now we can see just how much preparation went into the on-screen moments — during which Theron lost a tooth, according to Variety — as she got to show off these incredible skills.

The 41-year-old called the process "really intense" and credits those who helped teach her how to pull off these feats safely so everyone would emerge without injuries. We also hear Theron enthusiastically say "let's do it again" and "I can do that," proving she is a real trooper.

Now, as impressive as Theron is in this video and — most likely — in the entirety of Atomic Blonde (which finally hits theaters July 28), there are plenty of other actresses out there that embody the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme song and show that "females are strong as hell."

While everyone has a stunt double to some degree, here are some of our favorite kick-ass ladies on the big screen:

Zoë Bell

You may think you don't know who Zoë Bell is, but you've certainly seen her. If you've been watching Quentin Tarantino's films since the Kill Bill two-parter (doubling for Uma Thurman) you've seen the 38-year-old New Zealand native's work. She has been some combination both a stunt actress as well as an actual actress in Grindhouse (both Planet Terror and Death Proof), Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight

Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot — who brought Wonder Woman to life on the big screen this year — is the definition of beauty and brawn. The 32-year-old was crowned Miss Israel in 2004 and also served two years as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. As an actress, Gadot has appeared in the likes of the Fast & Furious franchise as well as joined the DC franchise, proving she can do her own stunts — sometimes even while pregnant!

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to action films — having played Black Widow in a slew of Marvel films as well as showing she can kick butt in both Lucy and Ghost in the Shell — and you might be surprised to know she does her own stunts. Well, at least most of them. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old said she wants people to know her involvement in the filmmaking process is high but that she knows when to step aside and let her stunt double take over.

Angelina Jolie

When you think of action movies, many think of the name Angelina Jolie. The 42-year-old actress has been in Gone in Sixty Seconds, the Tomb Raider franchise, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Salt, and Maleficent to name a few. A Telegraph article has Jolie talking about doing stunts — and getting a bit scuffed up as a result — in Salt, and one producer on the Tomb Raider series told Entertainment Weekly they spent a lot of time trying to get her to not tackle some of the action herself but she didn't listen most of the time.

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich has starred in the likes of The Fifth Element and Ultraviolet, as well as helmed the Resident Evil series since it hit theaters back in 2002, wowing us with the amount of action she has undertaken. Garnering a reputation for doing her own stunts — especially in the zombie video game franchise — the 41-year-old actress has become a cult favorite among moviegoers.

Michelle Rodriguez

The top name when you think of the film industry's badass women? Michelle Rodriguez. The face of the Fast & Furious franchise, the 39-year-old actress has also appeared in Resident Evil, Blue Crush, Lost, Avatar, and many other action-packed movies. Like Johansson, Rodriguez is always down to do her own stunts but, as told to Elite Daily, she does turn to a stunt double when necessary. Rodriguez said she gets to do all of the fighting, but her trained backup steps in for anything bigger.

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh — whose real name is Yang Zi Qiong — will first come to mind thanks to roles in Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, and the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery. The 53-year-old told The Daily Beast she is in "very good shape" and doesn't let her age get in the way of it. "I'm just going to keep doing this because I'm having fun," the Malaysian actress said.
