Budweiser's Super Bowl Ad Won't Focus On Beer For A Very Good Reason

"I'm proud to work for a company who contributes their resources for those in need."

There will be no Clydesdales, puppies, or even beer in Budweiser's Super Bowl LII ad. Instead, the company turns the spotlight to its philanthropic efforts. Over the past 30 years, the brewer has provided 79 million cans, or 7.3 million gallons, of drinking water to disaster relief. As the beer company equips a second brewery with the ability to can water in addition to beer, Budweiser's water donation program and the employees who work on the program are the stars of one of several Super Bowl ad spots from Anheuser-Busch


Entitled "Stand By You," the one-minute ad released last week features Kevin Fahrenkrog, the general manager of Budweiser brewery in Cartersville, Ga., that, until the addition of the Fort Collins brewery to the program later this year, was the sole supplier of the company's canned water program. More than 20 of the employees at the Cartersville brewery also appear in the spot.

"This is a story about the incredible people behind our iconic brand," Ricardo Marques, vice president of marketing for Budweiser, said in a statement. "Budweiser is one of the most highly anticipated brands on Super Bowl Sunday and we couldn't imagine a better stage to celebrate employees and build on our long-term commitment for disaster relief."

In 2017, Budweiser's water donation program provided water to communities recovering in the wake of such natural disasters as Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, and the California wildfires with the help of the American Red Cross. A portion of the proceeds from downloads of the cover of "Stay By Me" by Skylar Grey featured in the Super Bowl commercial will also go to the Red Cross.
