11 Times Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds Were Couple Goals — And Individual Goals

“She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy.”

Ever since Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' wedding in September 2012 — and even beforehand — they've been inspiring us with their humor, positivity, grace, and empathy.

Though they're both Hollywood stars — who met, incidentally, on the set of Green Lantern — Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's movie careers aren't the only ways they're contributing to society. They've been fighting gender biases, doling out important parenthood advice, supporting charities and charitable causes, swapping loving sentiments in the press, and even poking fun at one another on Twitter.

Here are some of our favorite Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively moments:

1. When Ryan Reynolds Paid Tribute to Blake Lively

"She always responds with empathy," Ryan Reynolds said of Blake Lively at the 2017 Met Gala, as quoted by Humans of New York. "She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy. She'll take the time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old."

2. When Blake Lively Bested Jimmy Fallon At “Harry Potter” Trivia

Blake Lively deserves admission into Hogwarts just for her Harry Potter knowledge alone. In 2016, she beat Jimmy Fallon at his own game on The Tonight Show, proving she could name more characters from J.K. Rowling's wizarding world than he could.

3. When Ryan Reynolds Gave Perfect Advice to Other New Fathers

"Just do the dirty work, man," Ryan Reynolds told all dads of newborns while appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers last year. "You gotta do the diapers, you gotta do the middle-of-the-night thing … A human being will exit your wife, she's done enough."

4. When Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Trolled Each Other on Their Birthdays

Check out this good-natured Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds birthday war. When she turned 30 in August, Blake Lively's husband pranked her by marking the occasion with a Twitter photo of the two of them, in which she is mostly cropped out.

And when he turned 41 in October, Ryan Reynolds' wife posted her own Twitter photo — of Ryan Gosling next to a cropped-out Ryan Reynolds — and said, "Happy birthday, baby." (Sure, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's age difference is 11 years — what of it?)

5. When They Revealed How They’re Raising Their Kids Without Gender Biases

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' kids, daughters James and Ines, have a head start on gender equality, thanks to their parents — Lively and Reynolds are working against the notions that women are bossy, for example, and that they need to be told they can do anything.

6. When Ryan Reynolds Kept Us All Laughing With His Dad Tweets

If you didn't know better, you'd believe Ryan Reynolds to be a terrible father based solely on his (hilarious) tweets. "My daughter's only 6 months old and already drawing," he wrote in one post. "I'd hang it on the fridge but honestly, it's absolute garbage."

7. When Blake Lively Supported All Post-Baby Bodies

"I think a woman's body after having a baby is pretty amazing," Blake Lively said during an interview on Australian talk show Sunrise last year. "You don't need to be Victoria's Secret–ready right away. You just did the most incredible miracle that life has to offer. I mean, you gave birth to a human being. So I would really like to see that celebrated."

8. When Ryan Reynolds Supported a Teen Through a Breakup

Earlier this year, high schooler Gabi Dunn's boyfriend broke up with her a few days after they went to prom, so she took their prom photos and replaced her ex with Ryan Reynolds. The actor then saw Gabi's Twitter post and responded, "We should photoshop me over his yearbook picture next."

9. When Blake Lively Took Action Against Child Exploitation

Blake Lively has teamed up with the Child Rescue Coalition to put an end to the trafficking and exploitation of children. "We are grateful to Blake Lively ... for raising awareness on the issues of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and exploitation of children," CRC founder Carly Yoost said in an email to A Plus earlier this year. "We are fighting the pandemic together, and awareness among the broader community that this can and likely does happen in their own communities is the first step."

10. When Ryan Reynolds Dedicated an Award to Cancer Patients

As Ryan Reynolds accepted Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year honor at last year's Critics' Choice Awards, he dedicated his award to the cancer patients for whom Deadpool "resonated" — including young fans Connor McGrath and Grace Bowen, who passed away. "They didn't lose the battle, but they started a fight," Reynolds said. "And it's up to us to finish it." (See also: Ryan Reynolds's letter to another young Deadpool fan with cancer.)

11. When Blake Lively Teamed Up With Gucci to Support Chime for Change

When Gucci donated money to Chime for Change — an organization supporting women's rights worldwide — the company had Gucci ambassador Blake Lively choose the beneficiaries. She chose projects supporting women's education, health, and justice. "I am truly grateful to give back through an organization that provides programs for women and girls to prosper," Lively said, per Vanity Fair. "I look forward to seeing the difference we all can make."
