People Reveal The Best Way To Help A Homeless Person Holding An 'Anything Helps' Signs

Small things can make such a difference.

On any given night, there are approximately 553,742 people in the United States experiencing homelessness according to a study from January 2017. What's more, the Guardian reported that homelessness was on the rise for the first time since the Great Depression with a 0.7 percent increase in the number from the previous year.

While there may be large organizations in place to help those in need find shelter,  people can still individually take action to help. People do this in many ways, from leaving warm winter garments behind, to implementing policies in an effort to eradicate homelessness.

Individuals wondering what the best way to help a person who is experiencing homelessness should take note of a recent Reddit thread. People who are, or have been homeless, answer the question: "What's the best thing to give to someone with a sign "anything help?" Other people who aren't homeless are also responding with things they have given to those in need.

These are some of their responses.

1. A few basic necessities.

2. Some time.

3. Products for basic hygiene.

4. Water to stay hydrated.

5. Gift cards to fast food places or dollar stores.

6. Items for the colder weather.
