The City Of Manchester Is Thanking Ariana Grande With This Very Special Honor

It's a first for the city.

Following a terrorist attack at her Manchester concert last month, Ariana Grande responded with love.

The singer returned to the city less than two weeks later to meet with victims in the hospital and perform a benefit concert called One Love Manchester with fellow artists such as Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. The event raised millions for those affected by the tragedy, and brought Manchester (and others who were watching around the world) together through music.

To recognize Grande for her response, the English city reportedly plans to make her an honorary Manchester citizen. It's part of a proposed new system to recognize contributions to the city from non-citizens.

"This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city," said Manchester City Council Leader Sir Richard Leese, according to BBC News

"We've all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester," he continued, "and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May — with love and courage rather than hatred and fear."

Grande, he added, "exemplified this response."

Plans will go before the council on July 12. The city will also hold an event later this year to recognize "great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit in the aftermath of the atrocity."

Leese commented that many already considered Grande "an honorary Mancunian," and it would certainly seem so from the social media response to the news. One user even suggested the honor should be extended to the entire UK.

Following One Love Manchester, Grande has returned to her Dangerous Woman World Tour.

"First show back tonight," she wrote on Instagram before her concert in Paris last week. "Thinking of our angels every step of the way."
