The architects at firm BIG have some astonishing plans up their sleeves.

These designers, builders, and thinkers are planning on taking a barren island in Azerbaijan and turning it into a self-sustaining, carbon-free oasis.

As the founder of BIG, Bjarke Ingels, stated in a TED Talk, wind energy will generate usable water which will help populate the island with vegetation, power for heat, air conditioning and more.

In addition, the island's structures will be modeled after the region's famous mountains, the Alps Of Central Asia.

The finished product, called "Zira Island," will have a layout much like this.

Here are a few artists' renderings of what the finished structures will look like. They are truly mesmerizing.
