Anne Hathaway Is Gaining Weight For A Movie And Has An Important Message For Body Shamers

"It’s not me, it’s you."

Anne Hathaway is not here for your body shaming comments. The 35-year-old actress recently took to Instagram to preemptively shut down anyone interested in negatively commenting about her changing body. In a post accompanied by a video of the star exercising, she explained that she's gaining weight for her latest film and doesn't want to hear anyone's adverse opinion on the subject.

"I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well," she wrote. "To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it's not me, it's you."

Hathaway is no stranger to the body positivity movement. While she's long been a size that's deemed "acceptable" by our culture's ridiculously strict beauty standards, Hathaway is often subjected to harsh criticism about the way she looks because she's a celebrity.

After she gave birth to her first child in 2016, Hathaway posted on Instagram to express that a changing body is nothing to feel ashamed of. She was more interested in spreading a body positive message than giving into the tabloids tendency to scrutinize celebrity moms to get back to their "post-baby bodies."

"There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever). There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all)," the actress wrote. "Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It's all love
(don't let anyone tell you otherwise)."

It's sad that Hathaway felt she had to shut down body shamers before the trolling starts. But when you've been in Hollywood for as long as she has, you catch on to how comfortable people are being cruel about women's bodies. Luckily, Hathaway has developed a thick skin and a positive sense of self-worth.
