How Amy Schumer Used Her Pregnancy Announcement To Encourage Voting

Blink and you'll miss it.

Congratulations are in order for Amy Schumer, who announced on Monday that she is pregnant with her first child with husband Chris Fischer. However, she didn't post any ordinary announcement. The actress and comedian actually used the news as an opportunity to encourage people to vote in next month's midterm elections.

According to Mashable, Jessica Yellin of News Not Noise posted a list of candidates Schumer recommends in the upcoming elections to her Instagram Stories. At the very bottom of the list was the message "I'm pregnant." It wasn't a total surprise, as Yellin advised followers to read all the way to the bottom, and offered her congratulations.

Schumer also did a little teasing on her own Instagram page, editing her and Fischer's heads onto the bodies of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who recently announced they are expecting a baby of their own. Schumer shared that she would be announcing "some exciting news" on Yellin's account, and added, "Follow her and VOTE!!"

"Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he's the father," Schumer joked in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. "I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way."

The Times also points out that Schumer is serious about politics, even getting arrested earlier this month while protesting the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

This isn't the first time Schumer has used a personal announcement to promote an issue she cares about. When she announced that she had married Fischer in February of this year, she asked people to donate to Everytown for Gun Safety in lieu of gifts. The issue is close to her heart, as two women were killed in 2015 at a showing of her film Trainwreck in Louisiana.

The actress made her wedding announcement shortly after a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, left 17 people dead. She added that she was "sending love to everyone who has been affected by gun violence."
