Say 'Yes' To These 3 Tips For Learning How To Say 'No'

The life-changing power of saying "no."

For Amy Newmark — author, editor-in-chief, and publisher of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series — saying "no" is just as, if not more important than, saying "yes."

"It's really, really hard because we're all programmed to want to be helpful, right? We want to say 'yes' to people, we want to be that kind of person — but you can't," Newmark told A Plus' Claire Peltier. She adds that if you're being stretched to be perfect at every aspect of your life — be it a partner, daughter, sister, friend, employee, or volunteer — her opinion is that "you will not be perfect at anything because you will be so stressed out and exhausted."

During this lively and educational chat, Newmark provided helpful anecdotes about people who learned how to say "no," as well as some tips for using this powerful two-letter word.
