D.C. Restaurants Will Donate Profits From Inauguration Weekend To Groups Like Planned Parenthood

"It's inspired by generosity and love."

Washington, D.C. will be abuzz with activity come inauguration weekend, and a group of esteemed food and drinks establishments in the capital intend on using the boost in business for good.

Organized by the group All In Service DC, restaurants, bars, and cafes that dot the city will be raising funds for charities and organizations that help the very communities expected to take a blow under the next administration, including Planned Parenthood. Other groups that will be receiving donations include Mary's Center, which serves low-income communities; Ayuda, a group supporting immigrants in D.C.; Martha's Table, which provides food, family support and education services to locals; and Thrive DC, an organization serving the city's homeless.

By helping groups that are likely to be targeted by President-elect Donald Trump's policies when he takes office, the fundraising event could be seen as a way for D.C. businesses to circumvent profiting from his inauguration. Trump has pledged to defund Planned Parenthood — and his vice president, Mike Pence, has a consistent anti-abortion record — and he frequently touts his vehement anti-immigration stance.

But when asked if the event was in opposition to Trump and his proposed policies, Sarah Massey, a spokesperson for All In Service, told A Plus, "The events of the inauguration present a vital opportunity to serve our nation's capital by creating inclusive spaces, in service not only to our guests, but also to our community. These are the fundamentals of hospitality, and it is in this spirit that we invite you to join us. This event is about demonstrating how amazing and caring the D.C. service industry is."

So far, 14 businesses have signed up to participate, but Massey said All In Service could bring on as many as double that number.

"We would love to see every D.C. service industry business join in," she added. "As the spotlight focuses on Washington, D.C. for the next inauguration, All In Service DC celebrates D.C.'s diversity by giving back to local organizations that keep our community thriving. It's inspired by generosity and love."
