These Heartfelt Video Messages Go Out To Friends And Family Who Are Cancer Survivors

June is National Cancer Survivor Month.

In June, many people don their purple ribbons in support of National Cancer Survivor Month, with June 3 being National Survivors Day. The entire month is dedicated to celebrating courageous individuals and their support teams, as well as raising awareness.

In honor of the occasions, Advocate Health Care had family and friends of oncology patients across the Advocate Health Care system submit videos about the cancer survivors in their lives.

Their touching submissions celebrate life, share words of encouragement, and are beautiful expressions of love.

The video shows husbands, daughters, sisters, colleagues, sons, mothers, and more recounting their loved one's journeys in personal letters from the time they were diagnosed.

One family member reads, "Cancer might affect one person directly, but it affects many indirectly, and it takes an army to support the warrior."

Another woman opens up about her sister. "Felicia means the world to me. She's not only my sister, she's also my best friend. She has always been a rock star, but beating cancer proves that she's a fearless over-comer."

The video ends with each of the relatives saying how inspired they are by the cancer survivors in their family. reports that in 2016, there were an estimated 15.5 million cancer survivors in the United States. That number is expected to increase to 20.3 million by 2026. While the cancer death rate has declined since the 1990's, it's reported that the number of new cancer cases per year is expected to rise to 23.6 million by 2030. Therefore, awareness, compassion, and support, like that exemplified in the video, will be needed.

As part of this year's Cancer Survivors Month, Advocate Health is encouraging others to get involved by sharing their own #LetterstoSurvivors and photos on its Facebook page.
