NICU Babies Celebrate Their Very First Fourth Of July In A 'Parade Of Little Ones'

Red, white, blue, and lots of love.

The Fourth of July was celebrated a bit early at the Advocate Children's Hospital in Illinois. On July 2, babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the hospital's two main campuses (Park Ridge and Oak Lawn) were given the opportunity to celebrate their first Independence Day with their families by participating in a "parade of little ones."

Parents, nurses, and hospital staff dressed up the babies in adorable patriotic outfits, and decorated their rooms with American flags.

The entire event was captured in a photoshoot so families could remember the happy occasion.

The event is a reoccurring one at Advocate Children's Hospital. In 2017, the hospital had another adorable parade of little ones for Independence Day. At the time, the joyous photos of the occasion quickly went viral.

In a press release, Advocate Children's Hospital explains that this year's "patriotic celebration was intended to bring joy and a sense of normalcy to parents during an otherwise stressful time."

Some of the patients at Advocate Children's Hospital include micro-preemies who weigh less than a pound and are considered "medically complex" as well as larger full-term babies.

No matter the reason the baby is in the hospital, all of their families are going through a difficult time and looking for some relief and joy.

Like Advocate Children's Hospital highlighted, celebrating milestones and giving families with babies in the NICU ward an opportunity to bond is so important because it gives them a chance to create happy memories.

It's something other hospitals are trying to foster. Hospitals have taken part in different celebrations including Halloween and Christmas and the holiday season. Furthermore, some hospitals even have "graduation day" celebrations to mark NICU babies going home.
