This May Look Like A Book For Kids, But Its Message Is One People Of All Ages Should Read

It's as simple as ABC.

In this day and age, with the seemingly endless string of important #MeToo stories, it seems that some folks need to be re-educated about sexual assault. In an effort to do just that, a group of creatives has given us The ABC's of Sexual Harassment.

Three junior creatives — copywriter Mariah Kline as well as art directors Oscar Gierup and Kristina Samsonova — teamed up with some female illustrators for a project. The book is described as an "ABC book for adults" and hopes to explain topics that are "often misunderstood or disregarded" in the current #MeToo era. The best part? Proceeds will directly benefit Time's Up.

An introduction reads:

"Hello people of all genders: This is a book about sexual offenders. Since it's hard for some to understand, we'll go back to basics to take a stand. If you want to have sex with him, or her, or me, the answer should be as simple as ABC."

"Respect for others is something we're taught in kindergarten but, in the wake of movements like #MeToo and Time's Up, it's clear that, as a culture, we need to do a better job of educating people how to treat each other," Kline said.

The minds behind the book noted how "sexual harassment is something that has affected all of us" and that they wanted to be a part of the cultural conversation that is finally being had. They went with the children's book idea in an effort to be "straightforward," "very simple," and "engaging way." And, by seeking out female artists to contribute, it gave women a chance to "show power through their art."

"We believe that progress has been made," the trio added. "But sexual harassment is systemic. It's not just about identifying a problem — it's about changing behavior. What we need now is for culture to change, and that will happen one step at a time."
