Anne Hathaway's Heartfelt 'A Star Is Born' Review Earned A Response From Lady Gaga

"I loved it. I hope you see it."

Whether or not you've already seen A Star Is Born, you've likely noticed some of the positive reviews from critics and viewers about the film. Actress Anne Hathaway recently added her own voice to the chorus of praise with a heartfelt post on her Instagram page which ended up catching the attention of star Lady Gaga.

Hathaway began by describing how quickly many of us move through our obsessions with great entertainment, counting us "fortunate" that our plates are "increasingly full" of good movies. "I do this too: even when I really love something, I get distracted by the next thing, don't fully digest the experience and I quickly move on," she wrote, "like the world exists only to entertain me, like great art is unlimited, that my consumption of it as an everyday all-you-can eat buffet is acceptable."

"That said, I think A Star is Born is so special, so ambitious, so audacious and so brilliantly human that it shouldn't just be a news story for one weekend," the actress continued, adding that she wants to "really luxuriate in appreciation" for the film, which she first saw at the Venice Film Festival in August.

"I still walk around feeling lucky I was in that audience," she wrote. "This film surprised me in the best possible way; it even killed some cynicism that I didn't know had snuck into my heart. I loved it. I hope you see it."

Hathaway has a history of using her Instagram to share meaningful messages with her fans. In July, for example, she tackled White privilege in a post about murdered Black teen Nia Wilson. She also previously posted an Earth Day message encouraging fans to be more environmentally conscious, and preemptively called out body shamers when announcing that she was gaining weight for a movie role, writing, "it's not me, it's you."

The actress tagged Lady Gaga in her most recent post, and the star took notice. According to Refinery 29, Gaga commented on the review with a touching response, writing, "Anne, I don't even know what to say this post was so beautiful and means the world to me, I look up to you so much you're an incredible artist."

"Thank you so much for not only being so supportive but the poetry of kindness with which you communicate your message," she continued. "I feel lucky you were sitting there with me."

We love to see stars (especially women) supporting each other in this way, and hope to see more Instagram movie reviews from Hathaway in the future.
