These Are Best Vines Astronauts Have Made While In Space

Absolutely mesmerizing.

Sure, getting to see things like thunderstorms, the Grand Canyon, and aurorae down here on Earth is pretty cool, but astronauts onboard the International Space Station have a completely amazing vantage point that is unlike anything that can be seen from the ground.

As the ISS orbits the Earth, it moves faster than 17,000 mph, which is almost 5 miles per second. This means that the astronauts see a sunrise or sunset every 45 minutes, and they get some amazing views of the planet from above along the way.

Not only are astronauts able to see features of the landscape like the Amazon River from space, but they can also see incredible weather including blizzards and typhoons. When these natural events occur over the lights of large cities, it gives an unmistakable feeling that the Earth is really, really big.

Fortunately, many astronauts love to share their experiences with the public to encourage exploration, so that one day traveling to space might be commonplace, rather than only for an incredibly select few.

Here are some of the most amazing views that have been recorded by astronauts and uploaded to Vine:
