9 Non-Harrison Ford Actors Who Could Still Play A Decent Han Solo In The New 'Star Wars' Spin-off

Because Harrison Ford's original portrayal is perfect and irreplaceable.

Star Wars is arguably the finest franchise that modern-day Hollywood has offered — the later two prequels non-withstanding. On Tuesday, it was announced that a Han Solo origin movie is set to be released in 2018. Responses were mixed as some were understandably nervous about who would be cast in the leading role. Though Harrison Ford will always be the best actor for that role, if any of these nine actors were cast in Han Solo's new movie as the lead character, we wouldn't be too mad about it.

It been eons since the Star Wars trilogy captivated the nation, yet each year, die-hard fans continue to show their devotion in various ways, including dressing up for Comic-Con as their favorite character from the galaxy far, far away. The casting of Han Solo in the Star Wars spin-off is a crucial and highly sensitive operation, and whoever ultimately wins the role will be subject to heavy criticism. Ford will always remain the original Han Solo, so this next actor will have much to live up to.

For now, The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are officially in the steering seat of the movie's production. It is slated for a May 2018 release, so there is ample time to perfect this spin-off. So which nine actors could play Han Solo in the new movie?

1. Taron Egerton

Rumors of a Han Solo origin movie have been swirling for years now and Welsh actor Taron Egerton has been frequently mentioned in accompaniment. Known for playing Dennis "Asbo" Severs in the British show Kingsman: The Secret Service, Egerton isn't a household name yet. But if his next big role does happen to be Han Solo, there's no telling how high his star could rise.

2. Zac Efron

Efron's come pretty far from his High School Musical days. He's got the looks, the charm and definitely the youth to play a young Han Solo. Plus, if this movie becomes the giant hit that it rightfully should be, he'd gain so much acting cred.

3. Chris Pratt

Doesn't it seem like everyone and their mothers in Hollywood want to cast the funnyman in a nostalgic film franchise? He's already proved himself a solid lead actor in Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy, and Pratt has worked with Lord and Miller in The Lego Movie, so there's a chance the two directors could want collaborate with him again.

4. Michael B. Jordan

Having tackled complex roles in the TV shows Friday Night Lights and The Wire, we've seen enough of Jordan to know that he has the talent, the drive and a killer smile that could very well make him an interesting pick for the role of a young Han Solo.

5. Anthony Ingruber

The Age of Adaline actor might not be too well known, but his striking Harrison Ford-esque looks made us do a double take. At 25, Ingruber would be the perfect age for the role. And this spot-on impression of Ford's Han Solo, made years ago, was what we can only assume as preparation for this very opportunity.

6. Chris Hemsworth

Hey, if you can handle the chracter Thor, there's a chance you might be able to handle Han Solo, too.

7. Liam Hemsworth

We had to cover all our bases here.

8. Shia LaBeouf

This video of LaBeouf's intense motivational speech inserted into this scene in The Empire Strikes Back is all kinds of amazing and who knows? Maybe directors Lord and Miller have seen this, too.

9. Jennifer Lawrence

Her gender aside, Jennifer Lawrence would be a kick*ss Han Solo. The movie's producers probably wouldn't want to anger fans by — gasp! — casting a woman in the iconic role, so this is highly unlikely, but hey, we can all dream, can't we?
