19-Year-Old Model Told She's Too Big For The Industry In Shocking Video

What is this world coming to?

We are all well aware that beauty standards perpetuated by the media, and particularly the fashion industry, are harmful and unobtainable for the average person, but when a 19-year-old with virtually no body fat can't even make it as a model, something is very wrong.

Clad only in a bikini, Swedish model Agnes Hedengård posted this video to show the world what a body unfit for the modeling industry apparently looks like.

It's pretty shocking, to say the least...

Though Hedengård has worked as a model for five previous years, in her video she claims she is no longer getting work. She says while agencies initially show interest, once they get ahold of her measurements, "it's a whole other story."

"...the industry thinks i'm too big...." she says in her video. "They think my butt is too big, and they think my hips are too wide. So yeah, according to the modeling industry, you cannot look like this."

Hedengård also points out that even though her body mass index is below what is designated as average and healthy, she is still deemed "too big" to model.

Her aim with the video is to "show everyone that a big part of the modeling industry thinks that this is too big; that you should not look this. It's absurd, and I hate it, and I just want other people to see this..."

Sadly, Hedengård's experience in the modeling world is not uncommon. Many videos and images have surfaced on the Internet showing the ways in which celebrities and models (people young women are supposed to view as beauty icons) are Photoshopped to look thinner and younger than they actually are.

But becoming aware of these problems in the industry is hopefully the first step to remedying them. The video ends on one final thought that hopefully will resonate with everyone watching. Hedengård' says: "...love yourself, don't let anyone tell you any different."
